The Gentleman

George Clooney, actor.

Fifteen films, no Oscars yet, but he was People's Sexiest Man Alive in 1997.

It's all going terribly well for Clooney, wise choices: David O.  Russell's under seen but brilliant Three Kings, Steven Soderbergh's under seen but brilliant Out of Sight, and, upcoming, Wolfgang Petersen's The Perfect Storm and the Coen brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Clooney, with his forehead creases and whiskeyish voice, exudes a refreshing mid-century-style manliness. How delightful, then, to learn that he'll next take on the Sinatra role in Soderbergh's remake of Ocean's Eleven - that rare remake virtually guaranteed to be better than the original.

Photographed (as Clark Gable) by Herb Ritts, at Quixote Studios in West Hollywood, California, on January 28, 2000.
