George Clooney in Mexico to Direct First Film
Mexico City, Apr 16, 2002 (EFE via COMTEX) -- U.S. actor George Clooney is
currently in the Mexican town of Nogales, on the U.S. border, to direct his
first film, "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," based on the life of a
television game-show host who allegedly led a double life as a CIA assassin.
Clooney arrived in Mexico this weekend from Canada, where the crew shot some of
the initial scenes for the film.
For his directoral film debut, Clooney was accompanied by Californian actor and
Honduran-born Daniel Zecapa and actor Sam Rockwell.
Dressed in shorts, a polo shirt and black cap, the actor signed autographs for
onlookers, who watched the crew as it moved through some of the streets of
Nogales.
The film crew is scheduled to leave for Tucson, Arizona, Thursday, where they
will shoot the remainder of the film.
Julia Roberts, who stars along with Rockwell in the movie, did not accompany
Clooney to Mexico, to allow her to finish filming scenes in Montreal and Quebec.
The movie is a comedy based on the life of Chuck Barris, the creator of
"The Gong Show" and "The Newlywed Game," which were popular
U.S. television game shows, and who supposedly led a double life as a CIA
assassin.
Some 60 extras participated in recreating a procession from Mexico's Day of the
Dead, which coincides with Halloween in the United States, through several
streets in Nogales.
