Film Review talks to the Golden Globe winning actor/director about politics, movies and rattlesnakes…

In the latest issue of Film Review George Clooney reveals why the current political climate in America has inspired him to direct the dazzling drama about the notorious McCarthy Good Night, and Good Luck and appear in oil industry corruption tale Syriana.

“When you do a film like Good Night, and Good Luck or Syriana or [David O Russell’s 1999 Gulf War movie] Three Kings – films that get you in a little bit of trouble along the way – they’re fun because they open up a debate. With the Patriot Act being voted on, it’s an interesting time to be involved in a debate about civil liberties, and whether fear should be used to take away certain civil liberties.”

George also opens up on a range of subjects including the influence his news anchorman father had on his decision to make Good Night, and Good Luck and why his mean and moody performance in Syriana was inspired by a series of unfortunate events in his own life.

“On my way to Morocco, I walked out of the house and there was a rattlesnake wrapped around my dog, its teeth in the back of its head. I had to get a baseball bat and beat the snake off of it, which killed the dog. The last thing the dog saw was me beating it with a baseball bat. My brother-in-law, who’s 46-years-old, stood up and had a heart attack and died. It was one thing after another. Things weren’t going well.”
